It’s almost a
month since the day I started working here in USAS. Many asked me how my career
was going. I can say, I love being here. The workload is bearable, and I love my
career. I truly learnt a lot through teaching. My students sometimes gave me
questions that were testing my knowledge. When I got questions that I didn’t
know how to answer, I asked them to find out themselves when they get home. Little did
they know; their teacher had stumbled over their questions. The matter didn’t stop
there, I took the questions as a homework. I studied and asked my former
lecturer to receive a definite answer.
Another thing is, I
would like to tell you guys about my dean named Dr. Roslan. On my second week of
working, I had a lengthy conversation with him. He proposed that I further my
study in the US. It never crossed my mind the United State will be a place to
continue my studies. I had planned to take my Phd overseas like in Turkey, Brunei,
Qatar, or a few other Arab countries, but not in the West. Dr. Roslan had broadened
my view and assured me that I will love studying, working and even staying in
the US for my whole life.
The most
interesting thing was, he bet his life that I will come back to Malaysia as the
first one who has a deep knowledge in Middle East studies. He couldn’t describe to me the methodology was studied there, but I could feel the distinction
from his shiny eyes. I wish I have a chance to seek the knowledge there and
prove all his claims.
